Pilgrims believe that bathing in the river’s holy waters can cleanse their sins and safeguard them from an untimely death. The original temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and was later rebuilt by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the 19th century. The temple’s Surya Kund hot springs are especially revered, where devotees use the water to prepare offerings like rice and potatoes. The challenging trek to Yamunotri Dham itself is considered a significant act of devotion, symbolizing the trials and spiritual dedication of the pilgrimage.
